Welcome
to our troop web site! Pardon our dust. Portions of this web are still under construction.
New! Share
Campout Photos via Picasa Web Albums
Visit the Photo Gallery page and check out our new method for showing and
sharing campout photos. Our first Picasa Web album features the Alabaster
Caverns campout...you can access these photos with your web browser.
We also have links for other cave campout photos,
courtesy of committee members Shane Edmounds and James Wilson. Great bat photos, Shane!
Campout Agendas
Visit the Campout Agenda page for details on the dual events May 2-3-4.
There will be a MANDATORY backpacker shakedown
in Hemmed In Hollow for those going on the summer high adventure trip. For
everyone else, some great nature hiking is in store for a regular "tailgate"
campout in Sequoyah State Park.
Upcoming Events in April
April 28 Court of
Honor
We will meet at the Outreach Center, our regular location. Scouts and their
families are invited. This court of honor has an unusual number of
events….the activities include:
Advancement Recognized
Scouts who have earned various awards or advanced in rank will be
recognized during the court of honor.
Gear Swap
A court of honor brings together everyone in the troop, and it's also a
good time for a troop "garage sale." April 28 we will have a Gear Swap for
all adults and Scouts involved in our troop. Everyone attending will have
the chance to buy, sell or trade a variety of outdoor gear, including items
such as backpacks, clothes and hiking boots.
Often a Scout outgrows gear like hiking boots long before the gear wears
out. This gear swap allows older Scouts to recover some cash to use on other
equipment. It provides field-tested gear to younger Scouts at a fraction of
the cost of new stuff. So, bring your checkbook and any good used equipment
you'd like to sell or swap. (Please see the note about ALPS gear sales
below.)
Prepare for Wednesday Night Fundraiser Dinner
The next Wednesday Night dinner is April 30. Immediately following Court
of Honor April 28, Scouts and willing family members are invited to stick
around for a little while and help prepare for the next dinner. Any time you
can contribute to this effort would be welcome.
This year, during months that have a fifth Wednesday, we are conducting a
fundraising activity by hosting the church's regular Wednesday night
fellowship dinner before evening worship services. The Scouts and adults of
Troop 930 cook and serve the meal. Diners can give the Troop a donation if
they desire. These donations are shared among the participating Scouts and
can be used for the purchase of equipment, paying Scout dues, or paying for
summer camp or high adventure trips.
Summer Camp Payments
Scout Summer Camp is June 15-21 at
Camp Tom Hale. Cost this year is $180 for Scouts, and $115 for adults. The
first $100 is due at the Court of Honor, April 28.
High Adventure
Payments
High Adventure this year is a
backpacking trip in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, set for June 27-July 6.
Cost estimates range from $200 to $250 per person. If possible, we would
appreciate a partial deposit of $100 by Count of Honor, April 28.
ALPS Gear Purchases
(Please see the note about troop
gear swap above.) ALPS Mountaineering is an outdoor equipment company
that offers an excellent (45%) discount to Scout Troops. Troop 930 is
registered with ALPS and we are planning on purchasing some new troop gear
soon. Individual Scouts can buy gear, too. See the ALPS price list that was
handed out April 21. Please let us know on Court of Honor night, April 28,
if you want to add an individual purchase to our upcoming troop order. Links
to ALPS Mountaineering and its Scout program are always posted on this web
site. Click the "Links" page and then click the "Outdoor Equipment" link at
the top of the page.
Dads Needed for
Summer Camp
At summer camp, troops are required
to have a minimum of two adults present at all times. We need volunteer dads
to help meet this staffing rule. Come for one day, two days or the entire
week — any participation is welcome. The camp has an adult computer lab,
wired and wireless internet access if you need to stay in contact with work.
This is a great way to have fellowship with Scouts and their leaders in a
fun, laid-back atmosphere. Ask any adult leader for more info on what it's
like at summer camp.

boys Christian principles in leadership, citizenship, careers, hobbies and
self-reliance. We pledge to uphold the high moral standards of our
sponsoring organization and the Boy Scouts of America.
